Fishery Developments in the Past Year
Two major projects have come to fruition since our last Newsletter.
The first was the New bridge at the Whin Pool which was partly funded under the National Strategy for Angling Development. This replaced the old structure which was there since 1988. The new bridge is a all galvanized steel with a handrail and I think it should see most of us out.
The second project was the rehabilitation of an eroded bend on the Glenummera River, one of the main spawning and nursery areas of the system. This was partly funded under the Salmon Conservation Fund and the soft engineering works were carried out by a company called Rivus who specialize in this work. A detailed description of this project can be found here – Glenummera River Ecological Engineering Pictorial Review
Special thanks must go to all involved in the realization of these projects, especially IFI and Rivus. David McEvoy
