Three to Date
Firstly I’d must apologise that I haven’t updated you all before now, but I’ve just had shoulder surgery so I’m working with one arm. Whilst we haven’t gotten off to the prolific start that we did last year, we are on par with our ten year average. I suppose the most incredible factor to date this month is the weather. The first week was quite normal for February, but since then we have basically had gale force winds day in day out and the river has not fallen below 60 since the 8th, which makes targeting the elusive springer, a little more difficult.
The month opened brightly when one of our Blast and Cast Bavarian group, Werner landed a nice fish of approx 6.5lbs in the Deadman’s on a Nightstar on the 1st. Despite having relatively good fishing pressure we then endured a relatively quiet period with no fish landed although there were a few handshakes which anglers thought were fresh fish. Our second fish was landed a few days ago by Angus Sutherland on the 18th. It was taken at the tail end of the Quarry Pool on a Sunrae and was approx 6lbs. The third fish was taken yesterday, the 20th by Heinz, from the Meadow Pool on a Tosh and weighed in at 8lbs6ozs.
With eight days left in the month I would be hopeful that we may land another few. There is the odd rod available next week so anyone that’s interested can either contact the office or myself directly. Hopefully I will be updating this blog again in the next few days with news of more fish landed. D.McEvoy
