Experience Tells
We certainly got our first taste of Atlantic depressions for some time with Doolough unfishable for four out of the last seven days. I could have taken better pictures of Doolough in more extreme conditions during this past week.
Keeping up the family tradition the Westropp boys had a fish each on Sunday. Kit had one of 3lbs5ozs off the Quarry pool on a Beaded nymph and Edward had one of 2lbs2ozs on a Silver Stoat from the Meadow. There fishing partner Edward Furness Smith also managed to land one on Fin the next day of 2lbs3ozs on a beaded nymph.
It was however the Westropp’s aunt and her husband Maggie and Paul Sims along with Ian Carroll who had the lions share of the fish. Between them they landed a total of fourteen. Maggie and Paul had four off the river and four off Fin on various different combinations of flies. Ian Carroll landed six all off the river and all on a Sunrae Shadow.
Finally Ian Edgar from the Bahamas had a fish of 5lbs7ozs off Fin on a Delphi Collie yesterday.
This week starts relatively quietly and there are some experienced anglers here, but with the weather forecast to be dry with light winds they will have there work cut out for them to live up to last weeks total. D.McEvoy
