May Day Brings Water and Milder Conditions
Well since my last update the river tapered off to bare bones and we final got water on the nights of the 30th of April and the 1st of May. Despite the extremely low water conditions in week 17, our anglers finished the week strongly with three more fish landed. Brian Pattinson had two, one of approx. 7lbs from the Deadmans on a Stoats Tail Cone Head. Brian followed that the following evening with a fish of 6lbs7ozs from the Whin Pool on a Foxford shrimp. Heinz also had a cracking fish from the Whin Pool of approx. 12lbs on a Collie Dog Cone Head. Despite the low water there still seemed to be a few fish running and I could still spot a few here and there with my x ray eyes. Problem is, is that they become very difficult to catch when the water is so low.
Our anglers this week did not have a problem with water as levels rose nicely as a result of the rain. We had an experienced group of German and Swiss anglers who managed to land nine fish during the week.
Tuesday, the fish were playing hard to get but on Wednesday, Urs managed to break his double handed rod whilst playing a lovely fish of approx. 13lbs in the Whin Pool on a Delphi Collie. On Thursday there were two landed, both off Finlough. Yvonne had the first from the Stream of approx. 6.5lbs on a Collie Dog and then
On Friday Urs landed another fish from the Whin Pool of approx. 10lbs on a Delphi Collie again and he managed not to break the rod this time. So far today we have no fish but there is some rain due which will top up the system for the forthcoming days. D.McEvoy
