After a two year break, Afri walk returns

17/05/2022

After a two year pandemic hiatus, the annual AfrI: Action From Ireland Famine Walk took place again on 21 May with a tree planting ceremony at Delphi Lodge.

Walk Leaders included Catherine Connolly TD, author and Activist Robbie McVeigh, and Community Worker Homayoon Shiraz. Music was provided by one of Ireland’s “most exceptional musicians” Patrick O’Laoghaire (I Have A Tribe).

After a tree-planting ceremony at Delphi Lodge, it was a sean-nós interpretation of a Séan Ó Ríordáin poem by O’ Laoghaire that concluded the memorial event and set the scene for the walkers. More than 200 take part in Afri Walk. Walkers retrace steps of historic famine pilgrimage in Co Mayo.
