Nearly There

I don’t know whether this means we have nearly reached 500 or we have nearly reached the end of the fishing season!! It must be that time of year I’m waffling; better get down to the facts. Saturday 24th it was Doolough that produced the goods with Donal Roche hooking 4 salmon on a Claret Bumble and landing 2. They weighed in at 4lbs and 6lbs respectively.

We drew a blank on Sunday and the upper lakes were unfishable due to adverse weather. Yesterday we had 2 salmon off Finlough in the morning. Hans Schroeder had one of 4lbs6ozs on a Willie Gunn, while his fishing partner Johannas Hipp had one also on a Willie Gunn of 2lbs15.5ozs. After lunch Mike Shortt had some really fishy stories after his session on Fin with his brother Mark. So far today we have one fish landed. It was landed by fishing guru Peter O’Reilly and weighed in at 4lbs5ozs. It was taken on a Green Peter. That now brings total for the year to 475. With three days left we’ll do well to achieve 500 even allowing for the “anything goes” on the last day.
